« AVONDALB MEETING COLONEL SOULT WINS AUTNMN HANDICAP. Bγ Telegraph-Special Correspondent. Auckland, April Id. The weather was line lor the concluding day of the Avondale races. The attendance was large, and the course holding. The totalisator put through '.£32,k(i, as against lite, last year. The total for the lneetimi was iCO,G7I 10s., against ,£48,836 last year, an increase of .611,825 10s. Luperino was the favourite in theWaikuuiete Hurdles, and alter being tailed off for a inile he ran through the field, and had the.race won at the last fence. Yankee Doodle and Tβ Onga made moat of the.running, but at A mil« and a quarter Yankee Doodle w'aS done with, and .Tβ Onga led to the last fence, where Luperino had him beaten. Glendalough fell at the final fence, but had no chance at the time. Eing, Lupin was backed down to a very short price in the Dominion Handicap, but thero was good money for Mill 6' Gowrie and Carlysian. At the rise of tho balrrier, the favourite and. Lady Jack ■went out by themselves, and they came into the straight well clear of the field. At the distance both wore done, and Carlysian coming with a good run won easily from Mill' 6' Gowrie. General Joffre was a close third; : ■ • ■ Bingham monopoljeed the betting in the Nursery Handicap, and he proved what a good thing it woe by winning very easily after, racing at the tail of the. field for the first/three furlongs, Demotic, who ran second, was unlucky in that he stumbled when looking a winner. The Alison stable etarted three, but the best they did was to get "third with Sanacre. Bedford iras. favourite in the Autumn Handicap, but the nearest he got was fourth, where he finished. ■■ Meltchikoff and Glenspire led for three furlongs, and then Colonel SouJt went up to Meltchikoff, while Gleispire dropped out. The leading pair tok together at the straight, but in the run home Colonel Soult came away and won very easily. Meltehikoff just lasted long enough to keep Fionnuala off and get second. Lady Penury, Tinopai, and Minister were never sighted. - ■ • ■_ ? Troublesome might have won the Steeplechase but for his bad jumping, which cost him lengths at every fence. As it was, he held a good, winning position at the last fence, which he_ .ran down badly, and thus settled his chance. When the last lap was'.entered!, Eanz*. I Mist was in the lead, and he was first round the straight, but in.the run to the- post Gluepot wore him down and won by a length. Troublesome was- close up third, and Bonnie Jean next. Bluestone and Carlysian were backed for big money in the Waitakerei Handicap, and they were the leaders well into the straight. "" They were both ha.rd at it at the distance, when Gle'nroy joined in, and.in a great finish Glenroy : won hi :i head from Bluestone, Carlysian the same distance- away third. . Housewife was riglit up fourth, and the others were.'well beaten. <■' Corregidbr and Idra carried most money in the Mount Roskill Handicap. King of the yalley and Porphyry were out in front early,' and Porphyry looked to be going particularly well when she fell-and brought down Idra, Chilblain, and .St. Francis. . This caused.: a big change, and. Uncle Ned was 6oon in front, ■ and there he stopped, winning nicely from Corregidor, with Lady Energy, finishing fast, third. Marble Star was fourth." ■ . . .In. the Welter Handicap Cardrona •went to the front at the rise of the bar--, rier, and led all the way. The others never looked like reaching O'Sheas mount, which was well supported. DETAILS OF THE RACING. By Telegraph—Press Association. . WAIKUIIETE HUBDLES, of 200 soys.
