ELIMINATING THE UNFIT
..NEW METHOD ADOPTED. The matter of unfit men being sent into camp was before the executive of |the Auckland Provincial Patriotic and iWar Relief Association at'its meeting oi Wednesday, when an authoritative reassurance on the point was also forthcoming. Complaints were received from the secretary of the Thames branch that several unfit men in the district' had been called .up.'.There were cases of men who had previously;.,been-.rejected,, and-- an instance.':,was ,qudted. of a man called up who was mentally deranged. A letter .was received from SurgeonGeneral R. W. Henderson, DirectorGeneral of Medical Services, s'tating that a conference of medical officers of the . District Medical Boards had recently to standardise the examination .of recruits for the Expeditionary Force. In future all recruits, voluntary or otherwise, would require to be passed by these District Boards. The writer said he felt sure these
methods would prevent men who were ' not physically fit being received in camp. It was decided to reply to the communication from the Thames in- terms of General Henderson's letter.
