UREWERA PERJURY CHARGES
LIVELY COURT PROCEEDINGS. By, Telegraph.—Press Association. Hamilton, April 12. In the Supreme Court to-day. before Mr..; Justice Hosking, the hearing of the perjury charges against the Ruaitcs was continued. Tioke Hakaipare was charged with committing perjury by swearing that Constable Skinner was the man who fired the first shot at Maungapohatu, and that he fired the said shot from a revolver point-blank at Rua. Mr. Mays represented the Crown, and the prisoner (who pleaded not guilty) was represented by Mr. .T, Lundon. The evidence was practically similar as that adduced at the previous hearing. At 2.30, the foreman of t'io jury intimated to His Honour that the jury wished to express their disapproval of certain irrelevant questions, and that - they were heartily sick oF listening-to matters not in issue. Senior Sergeant C'assells was in the wit-ness-box five and a half hours, and some lively interchanges took place between witness and Mr. Lundon.
