' ._ ? .' •: SENTENCED TO IMPRISONMENT. By Telegraph—Press Association. Palmerston, April 5. Probably the first case of its kind in tho Dominion was heard by the Magistrate (Mr. Kenrick ) to-day. Eric Hardy was charged that, without the consent of the Minister of Internal Affairs, he, whilst a reservist, changed his name to Gaythorn. Accused pleaded guilty. Tho facts, as stated by the police, were that accused was drawn in the ballot, but failed to appear. A warrant for his arrest was issued, and he was apprehended locally. • When asked his name, he said it was Gaythorn, and showed a telegram containing that name. Later, lie admitted that his correct name was Hardy. The Magistrate said the proper course was to imprison accused, so that the military authorities could call on him at. any-time. Hardy was sentenced to a month's imprisonment.
