HORSE MEAT IN NEW YORK

"i sold 1800 pounds of horse meat last week, and that. is a big week's business for a new meat store," said John Sulzer, proprietor of what ho announces as "America's,first horse meat packing house," on First. Avenue, near One Hundred and Twenty-second Street (reports the "New York World"). He was doing a thriving retail business there, and, aside from the fact that horse meat is a 'trifle redder than beef, the appearance of the store looked oio different from' any other neat and attractive butcher's shop. "If I had sold 1800 pounds of ordinary beef in the first >veek, I would have thought it big business. I,know the business thoroughly/ having been in it in my native Switzerland from 1904 to 1908. The stopping of the supply, of horses from Germany determined me to come to America, and I am now an American citizen.
