WOMAN HANGS HERSELF

At the' inquest ou Elizabeth Pearston, aged 49, a widow, and a certificated maternity nurse, evidence was given by Genevieve Meddell, a nurse in the hospital, who said that Mrs. Pearston was a patient in the isolation ward and was supposed to .be suffering from scarlet fever. At 4 a.m.' „on Saturday she looked in deceased's room and saw •her sleeiping quietly../At 4.50 a.m. she again visited the room and found the door shut, and on entering found the bed empty. She noticed that the window' in the room was open wide, and a sheet with one end attached to the radiator was hanging out of the window. On looking* out of the window ■ she saw deceased hanging'on the other end of the sheet. Tlie bedy was recovered, but life .was extinct. There were 41 ,patients in the ward. The coroner remarked! that not the,slightest blame was attachable to the nurse. Other evidence showed that deceased had never spoken of suicide. Her act was attributed to illness and worry. A verdict of suicide while of unsound mind was returned.
