THE SECOND DIVISION
. NOT REQUIRED FOR MANY MONTHS. Exact calculations regarding the date of the': exhaustion of the First Division of the Expeditionary Force Reserve are still impossible, owing to the 1 in-, completeness ,of the available figures concerning the, proportion; of fit men drawn in the : ballots, hut the_ indications are that tho First Division is going to provide recruits for a longer period than was originally expected. The percentage-of fit, available mon is proving high, and the latest returns are understood to indicate that possibly there may be no need to send reservists of the Second Division into camp before the end of tho present year. • . The proportion of unfit men m each' ballot liet is;likely, to increase progressively, owing to tho fact that First Division men are. still enlisting voluntarily in considerable numbers. The, withdrawal of- each attested volunteer from the reservo must decreaso the percentage, of fit men remaining. But even whon allowance has been made for all the doubtful facte™, there remains reason to believe that the First Division still contains at least 12,000 and possibly 15.000 fit men available for service with the Foices.
