RE GIFT TOBACCO
Sir, —I would relate my experience in sending tobacco, etc., to men of the Expeditionary Forces through the medium of the Overseas Club m .London from the Palmerston North fund organised by me, lest that which has been said and written about in .Tour columns about gift tobacco may reflect upon tho operations of this club. As I have already remitted about' £1230, I claim through my arrangements for purchase and from acknowledgments received from the men themselves to know something about the matter. I havo received many scores of messages which are open to the inspection of any interested person._ The appreciation of quantity and quality is ,thereby most marked, and amongst all these there is only one dissenting ines- 1 sago. ' . . Headquarters of the club in London had been specially instructed as to brands of tobacco and cigarettes, and eucli instructions havo been strictly carried out. One of mv correspondents at the front corroborates thTs'Tiy saying:— ' " .'! "You are more fortunate than some of our friends. Ymi must have a conscientious buyer of tobacco.—M. M'Allister." Another— • "I can assure you tho main object of the club is being aohieved in delivery of tobacco to the men who need it.—o. U. Edson, Headquarters, 1/A.N.Z.A.0."
The brands arranged for wcro Hare-i lock plug tobacco and Threo Castle (green) cigarettes, purchased in ,Lon-' don at cost in bonu, and transported to the-front without expense of any. kind.—l am, etc.. J.. HERBERT HANKINS. ■' Palnioreton North, March 26.
