PETONE BOROUGH AFFAIRS
MEETING OF THE 'COUNCIL,
.The: Petone Borough, Council held its fortnightly .meeting last evening, the Mayor (Mr. J. i\V. .M'Ewan) .presiding, and : there. were .also : CouncUlors W. E. Forsyth, 0. P. Brocklebank, A. Anderson, JD. 'M'Kenzie, R. H! 'Jamos and W;j f Cox. Counsel to.-the Municipal Association intimated that it 'had >been .decided not to hold a conference this year.' With respect, .to the enrolment of soldiers on the Municipal 'Roll, counsel to the Municipal Association ;forwarded an opinion that soldiers who wero resident in the .borough when they left for the war, and who 'have .since returned, were ' entitled : to ! be enrolled: ' The Publio Trustee notified the council that it was-'.not .the intention ,of his Department .to-proceed .With the roading_ of the tEstato -at. present. He stated that he was communicating .with the ihenefioiaries. -

With respect to -iVlie 'Motor jßy-Law, 1917, the Automobi\e\ Association-wrote agreeing that the limit fixed for the borough was fr.ir, but that the: limit on the Lower H'utt Road was too low. The' council' deluded -to consider tho matter at next nvoeting, and the confirmation of the \bty-law was deferred. -. ,
