THE ASSOCIATED COMMITTEES. The quarterly meeting of the Wellington School Committees' Association was. held last night. Mr. t T. P. Shand presided, in the absence of the ohairman of the association (Mr. W. E. Fuller). .■ ■ The secretary (Mr. Jorgensen) announced that he had resigned from the Kilbirnie School Committee, and had thereforo ceased to bo a member of the association. • Tho chairman reported that .he had interviewed the Brooklyn School Committee. and that this committee had decided to join the association. The secretary of the Brooklyn School Committee (Mr. A. J. White) spoke to the meeting on the subject of the free supply of school hooks to children. He maintained that while parents were required' to pay for class-books, the education system was not properly described as "free," and he contended that the Government should provide all school requisites. It was agreed after brief comment, all of which favoured Mr. White's proposal, that the members of the association bring the matter before their several oommittecs for discussion, and that the question be raiser! at a later, meeting of the association.
