M'Kensrie, of Clevedon.has been promoted to the rank of colonel,, and has been awarded the D.S.O. for con-■ spicuous gallantry in the battles on the Somme. Colonel M'Kenzie was born and brought tip in Ness Valley, Clevedon, and was an enthusiastic member of the old Franklin Mounted Rifles. Ho left New Zealand in command of a reinforcement draft. On one occasiop ho had a narrow escape from death, being blown into, the air by a shell. Recently he spent a short furlough visiting relatives in Scotland.
