Wedding In Creytown. The wedding took place in the Presbyterian Church, Greytown, last week of Miss Zillali Evelyn Humphrieß; second daughter of Mr. H. Humphries, and: well known* in hockey circTSo? to Mr. Alexander Orr (a. returned , soldioi,, who took part -in the Gallipbli fighting), second son of Mr. J. Orr. The Rev. Mr, Gruiidy performed the ceremony, and Mr. J. Newman . was beat maii. Two littlo children, Misses Ngaire Ealfour and Stella Humphries, attended the bride. Women's National Reserve. A pleasing incident occurred recently in connection with the staff of the Ad-jutant-General, No.'2 Branch, Defence, Lambton Quay. Captain Cosgrove congratulated the "staff on their_ patriotism and generosity in subscribing the handsome sum of sjx guineas to bo givfen to the Entertainment Conynittee of the Soldier and Sailors Mothers of the Empire. The head of the voluntary staff, who collected the amount, Rave it to Mrs. G. W. Russell, and has also been instrumental in getting the donation of a box of tea from Fraser Ramsay, Featherston Street, a gift highly appreciated by the president and committee. Since has taken place the following donations have been received by the committee, who much appreciate tho kind thought:—Mrs. Seddon, £1; Mrs. Gordon, Ponsonby, £2 25.; Mrs. Corliss, Mrs. HorrocktJ (Karori), Airs. Brice, Miss Frances, Mrs.' Taylor, Mrs. Cameron (Hutt), all ss. each; Mrs. Hope Lewis, £1.. ' : Wellington Nursing Division. The Wellington Nursing Division made '£b<t 14s. 3d. at the Wel T lington Red Cross shop, Lambton Quay, on Friday. Mrs. Moorhbuse and Miss Robieson were in charge, and they were assisted by many keen workers for the Red Cross. The stalls were filled with every kind of produce, poultry, lamb, * hams, eggs, vegetables, home-made cakes in abundance, sweets, jams, ■ chutneys, and fruit. There also was a table of pretty ■fancy boxes and needlework. The flowers were, as usual, sold by the Misses Copper and Moss, and were in-great demand. These ladies would be glad of more flowers.so that if ahyono can spare even a few they would be most gratefullv received,: especially on Fridays. The takings for the week amount to. £138 4s. 3d., made, up as follows :4-Day's Bay ladies, including flowers, £S3 10s.; Wellington Nursing Division, £54 14s. 3d. Next Tuesday the Miramar ladies will have a good supply of home-made cakes. This suburb is famed for its cakes and bread, so that buyers may be assured of the best. Friday next will; be in charge of tho Women's National Reservo, AVadestown. This.is. their second day at tho shop, and the success of the first bids fair to be beaten. For the future tho shop will be. open only on Tuesdays and Fridays, except .by special arrangement. / .

At ■» meeting of' the Wangamii branch of tho Women's National Reserve, held on Friday, the following resolution was passed:—"That onco a, montn the' mothers ~ahd wives : of soldiers will bo entertained at afteriioon tea, provided by tho members of tho Reserve, and during ttfat entertainment inquiries will be in'adb to aseei-tain how many require assistance, and the means of giviiig it.".'. A resolution was also carried that a letter bo sent, to tho Efficiency Board Stating that this branch of the Women's National Be--servo will be willing to co-operato with them, and that there 'are- forty members of the Reserve who aro willing to do farm work'if called upon to do it. It was also decidod to form a class for first aid and homo nursing for members of the RoserVG. • '' ■
' Cable advice has been received that Miss Dolly Jeffrey, who for some years past has been acting as a missionary nurse on tho Melanesian Islands, lias died from fever (states a Christchurcli exchange). The deceased was the second daughter of the lato Mr. 'George Jeffery, - and was born at Lawrence, l'or some time prior to talcing up foreign missionary wovk she conducted a nursing homo at Gore.

Trench Comforts, 'file following subscriptions have been received for the Y.M.C.A. Trench Comforts Work at the front:—Bainha'm Patriotic Recruiting -Association, £5; the Southland Patriotic Committee has voted £17S a month during the war. A farmer sending in a pound writes an extract from a letter received from his only 'son at tho front:—"l am writing this in the Y.M.C.A. My, but they are good to us'soldiers, and seem to be everywhere ra go." Sydney Street Soldiers' Club. There was a large attendance of soldiers from Featherston and Trentham Camps at the Soldiers'. Club, in Sydney Street, on Saturday evening, a particularly large number being entertained at tea. During tho evening . the Acting-Prime Minister) Sir James Allen, accompanied by bis daughter, Mrß. Montgomery, and his son, the Rev. C. Alton, visited tli6 club, and several songs were sung by the latter, Mrs. Montgomery playing his accompaniments. Mr. Allen's Binging was much enjoyed, 'several encores being asked for. Further contributions to the evening's pleasure were the musical items played by the Misses Putnam (2), and Miss Beryl Earle. Danco In the Coring Street Hall. The first for this season of the dances which Miss Borlase-j assisted .by a committee, has been giving for soldiers for the past two years was held' in the I Goring: Street Hall on Saturday evening. The hall was well filled with dancers, khaki predominating largely, ahd a.very pleasant timo. was spent. Luke will open the sale at 2.15, and as the ladies have been preparing several interesting competitions* stalls, 'etc., it is 'hoped that members and friends will attend in largo numbers, in' order to.make the afternoon a big success.
