WATERSIDERS' PICNIC

In the Maidstone Park at Upper Hutt the Wellington Waterside Workers' Union held their annual picnic yesterday. The weather was ideal and the workers, .with their wives and families, turned out in large numbers to enjoy the day. Most of tho picnicers proceeded by the morning trains to Upper Hutt. The arrangements were excellent and the easy day spent in the country air was fully appreciated. During the day the usual sports programme was carried out. and some very keen competition took place. Music was supplied mostly by the Waterside Workers' Band, all looking spic and span in their new uniforms, but there was also a bagpipe or two to be heard. Taken all round the day was considered a very successful one, much more so than the last two which have been held at Belmont.
