THREE AMERICAN STEAMEBS SUNK NUMBER OF AMERICANS MISSING New York, March 18. Three American ships—the City of Memphis (5252 tons), Illinois (5223 tons), and Vigiknta (? Vigilancia, 4115 tons)—havo heen sunk, it is believed off the coast of France. ._ Thirty-two Americans are missing. London, March 18. The captain and twenty-three of the crew of the Memphis are missing. New York, March 18. The crew of the City of Memphis were praotically all Americans or naturalised Americans. The vessel left New York for. Havre on January 23 with a cargo of cotton, and arrived ah Havre on February 6. Then she left for Cardiff for bunker coal, prior to returning to New York. Normally she carried a crew of fifty-eight. The sinking of the Memphis has crer ated tremendous interest in New York,; Washington regarding it as final evidence that Germany is determined not to spare any American' ship's. .SUNK WITHOUT WARM.
