UNEXPECTED CALLS ON THE BRITISH EXCHEQUER

London, March 15. Mr. Bonar ,Law (Chancellor of the Exchequer), introducing in the House of Commons 'the. supplementary credit vote of sixty-four millions, said that he had been disagreeably surprised to tod that the last credit would not suffice for tho financialyoar. It would now be -necessary to find eighteen millions for the Australian wheat, and twentythree millions for advances, to the Allies and the Dominions. It had- been understood that tho payments to Australia would not he necessary during the current financial year. In both eases it meant paying the money now, instead of the next financial year. The balance- comprised two amounts which it would not be advisable, to slate separately. One consisted of additional munitions expenditure, and really should bo a source .of satisfaction, because it was , duo. to the prompter delivery of. supplies than was expected.
