A NEW ORGANISATION
CONSTITUTION ADOPTED. Proposals for the constitution of a federation to be known as the National' Council of Women of New Zealand were submitted last evening to a meetr ing of ladies, presided over by ( Mrs. A. 11. Atkinson.' The proposed constitution was adopted. The nature of the new organisation is indicated by the following paragraph, which appears as a preamble:—"Wo, the women of Wellington, New Zealand, sincerely believing that the best good of our homes and state will by God's blessing be advanced by our greater unity of thought, sympathy, and purpose, and that an organised movement of women Will best conserve the highest good of tho family and tho State, do hereby bind ourselves together in a confederation of workers to further the application of the golden rule to society, custom, and laws." The objects set out are: To unite all organised societies of women for mutual counsel and co-operation, and in tho attainment of justice and freedom for women, and for all that makes for the good of humanity: to encourago the formation of societies of women engaged in trades, professions, and in social, and political work in connection with which no organised union at present exists.
Following is the rule regarding membership and affiliation :—All organised societies and associations of women or societies and associations of men and women, whose objects are apnroverl of bv the executive, are eligible for affilia-tion-/if in sympathy with the policy of the council. Any woman not? a member of an affiliated society may become a member of this council on the nomination of any two members of affiliated societies, the nomination to be submitted to a meeting of the executive. At the meeting, officers were elected as under:—President, Miss England; vice-presidents, Mrs. A.. U. Atkinson, Mrs. Donaldson, and Miss Florcpee R'rfh: recording ' secretary. Miss Niehnlls; corresponding sporetarv, Miss Lawsen ; treasurer, . Miss Marjorv NWiolls. The, executive nf the federation will consist, of thp above office-henrers. Meetings will be held monthly, from April to November. Votes of thanks to the Provision.il Committee for drawintr u" the constitution, and to the Y.M.O.A. for use of their rooms, concluded the meeting.
