ONSLOW BOROUGH
.MEETING OP THE COUNCIL. The fortni.trlitiy meoting of the Onslow, Borough Council was held last evening, the Mavor (Mr. C. C. Crump) presiding. There were also present: Councillors J. CJ. Smith, J. 11. Dale, { C. Bowdcn, H. Brenton Kule, J. C. : Gardner, A. W. C. Palmer, and L. A. i Browne. j In view of tho approach of the closo , of the financial .year the borough, clerk • was ordered to send out special 110j iiccs with respect to outstanding rates i aiiii water accounts. | There was a lone discussion on the eagincer's report that a sum of £21 be expended in repairing the borouuh pound, and it was eventually agreed to authorise the expenditure. In view of tho serious grass fires that were experienced in Khandallali on Wednesday it was decided to procure 7~) fire-beaters, tho same an i those used by the City Fire Brigade, and distribute them .equally between ! Khandallah, Ncraio, and Kaiwarra. i A circular was received from the j National Efficiency Board similar to tile > circular sent to other local bodies. It was decided to reply that tho council would do its utmost to help the Efficiency Board, slthouali at tho present time the council had 110 contracts in j hand and employed very little labour. The Railway Department, in a letter ■ to the council, in respect to fires caused by sparks emitted from railway oncine*, stated that the locomotives on the railways wore fitted with the bi'st- ' known appliances for arrostinj: sparks, i 'lint, the apparatus was examined daily I before tho ensines commence tlieir j runs, and any defects immediately remedied.
