WATER SUPPLY
| RESERVOIR WATER RECEDING. •' | As tlia weather continues warm and dry, the water question is becoming ouo of increasing seriousness. Tho level of the water in the Morton dam waa over 15ft. below the lip of tbo by-wash yesterday, and very perceptibly the area of the lake is diminishing. This should bo sufficient warning to citizens to bo as careful as possible with the water, as it is quite possible that the present stretch of dry weather may continue for another week or two, though it is not likely. In order to make a substantial economy, the. Reserves Committee of tho City Council has issued instructions to those in charge of the reserves to cease watering operations, cxcept in tho t asf> of parts of the Botanical Gardens. There the little stream that feeds tho ornamental lake (near tEe main walk) has dwindled to n trioklc, and threatens to dry uo altogether, whilst the lakn itself will soon bo dry land if tha existing conditions continue. The inspectors of the City Corporation ar<> keeping a sharp look-out for people who are overstepping the mark in respect lo tho use or water, and should there bo instances wher| wator is being used extravagantly action will at once .bo taken.
