TWO TRAMS AND AN AMBULANCE
$ COLLISION IN THE STREET. . A tramway accident, resulting in injury to two men and the dolay of traffic for about 40 minutes,, occurred at 7.30 a.m. yesterday. An ambulance, owned ; by the Defence Department, was on its way from the Hospital, and at tho corner of the Basin Reserve, opposite St. Mark's Church, the driver (Sergt. H. M. Brown) endeavoured to pass car 31, driven by Motorman J. P. Connelly. A dust-cart was in the way, and Sergt. Brown went to the other side, not quickly enough, however, to escape tramcar 42, which was travelling in the opposite direction. Tho ambulance became jammed between the two cars, and Motorman J. Hume promptly applied the emergency brake on No. 42. The impact was severe. Both cars had their weather screens badly damaged, and the ambulance also suffered. There were three passengers in the ambulance, and they could not bo moved until the Hospital ambulance arrived. Tho driver and Corpl. Robinson, who was on the Defence ambulance, wore both cut abouj the head and face, ] and Robinson required to have his wounds dressed at the Hospital.
