NAVY LEAGUE

WELLINGTON EXECUTIVE.

The monthly meeting of tho executive committee of the Wellington Branch of the Navy League was held on Tuesday afternoon. There were present: Mr. J. B. Harcourt (in the chair); Colonel U. F. C. Campbell, Messrs. C. It. Smith, B. Darroch, Barry Keesing, Wm. Foster, A. Atkins,. 0. B. Morison, C. W. Palmer, and Mesdamos Bradney Willianls, Hope Lowis, and Richardson.

Annual contributions of £1 Is. were received from His Excellency the Governor and Mr. T. M. Wilford, M.P, Mr. C. It. Smith reported on behalf of the Palmer prize sub-committee that circulars had been s,ent out to several branches, and to others likely to bo interested, asking for assistance towards tho fund to provide an annual prize for competition amongst the echools, such to bo known as tho "Palmer" Prize. It was decided fihat the Wellington Branch should contribute fen guineas towards tho project.

In making tho statement as to the financial position of tho branch, tho lion, secretary stated that 515 adult members had paid subscriptions since Iho closo of the last ■ financial year, August 31, 1916.

Mr. 0. W. Palmer reported on a 10eijnt trip made by him to the Taranaki district. Hβ stated that a large publio meeting organised by Mr. C. M. Strouts was held at the Patea Town Hall. Considerable enthusiasm wae 1 shown, and a. branch of the league formed. There aro also seven school branches in ctourse of formation in the same district. Mr. Palmer also sddressed schools.at Hawera and Marton, and showed lantern elides at Huntly House School, where a branch of tbo league was formed. Hβ also formed a branch at Kaponga School. Hβ was dnable'to slides at the Woreroa Training School, but at the request of Major Burlinson will make a visit at some future date.

Votes of thanks were passed to Mr. Palmer and Mr. Strouts.

Mrs. Bradney Williams mado a report regarding the activities of the ladies' auxiliary branch, and appreciation was expressed with" regard to .tho excellent work which tho ladies aro doing.
