On his recent tour of the North Island Sip James Allen had many' talks with iariners concerning the activities ol too National Efficiency Board. Generally be foutd the farmers only too read} to fall in with tho wishes 'of the Government, and on his return to t\elTmgton yesterday he said he was fhighy pleased with tho manner in wlncli tho farmers had received the national eflicie.jit.v proposals. "The first task of the board." said isir James Allen, "is to make provision, for the curving on of the farms <f {armors taken for military service. A number of hoards of local trustees will he set up tnis week. These, boards have "to be appointed by the Government <n the recommendation of the National Efficiency Board. I havo a number of recommendations before me now, and I will bring them before Cabinet as soon as opportunity offers. The next duty of tlio board wiJl.bc> to classify industries into'essential and non-essen-tial, and to take stock of tho labour available for carryiritr on ..he industries that aro essential. If sufficient labour 15 not available the board may consider proposals.for adding to the supply .by drawing upon ether labour, possibly by arranging for men who havp retired to take up active work again. Wo may have in soino instances to-call in the women. I believe that niiidi good can be done by a better organisation of labour in the country districts. I want the public to realise that the operations of the board are likely to be widespread. Vve are only making a beginning now. ■
