RUMANIA AND THE ALLIES
QUESTION OF PLEDGES RAISED
EXTRACT FROM A LETTER
London, March 6. In the House of Commons, Mr. Dillon asked whether, we had impressed Rumania, by pledges of assistance which Wβ were unable to fulfil. He quoted an alleged letter from Lord Hardingo (who was 1 for some years British Ambassador to Petrograd) to Sir George Buchanan (the present Ambassador), apparently seized among mails and published in Germany, stating that M. Bratiano (tho Premier of Rumania) had always been pno of tho most evasive fellows, and was even now endeavouring to wriggle out upon the pretence that our offensive- at Salonika is not everything ho desired: Mr.- Maophersou (Financial Undersecretary to the War Office) said that Mr. Dillon ought to 'read the doubtful letter with great hesitation. He asked whether Mr. Dillon quoted it with Lord Hardinge's permission.—Aus.N.Z. Cable Assn.
