e THE INFORMATION DEPARTMENT. Tho following progress statement of tho operations of the Discharged Soldiers' Information Department as at February 27 is furnished by the Minis-tor-in-Chargo (tho Hon. A. L. Herdman). Total nuniTJer of men on. register:— (A) Disposed of, 5924; (B) undor action, 609; (C) not ready for action (including men returned by recent trans272; total, 6505. Particulars showing how cases dealt with:—Cases disposed of: (a) Men who havo work to return, to, and men who havo re-enlisted or returned to military duty, etc., 2523; (b) men placed in employment, 1389; (c) men who havo i signed "Assistance not required," 1318: (d) left New Zealand or cannot ascortain address, 155; (e) men who have not responded to repeated communications, and' men who have accepted' work tho Department found for them, but failed to start work, 539; total, 5924. Cases under action:—(a) Reports ■upon cases not yet returned by officers making inquiries, 144; (b) await--1112 further advice (including men who havo stated that they are not yet ready for work), 343; (c) at present on employment wanted rogistcr, 122; total, 609. Cases not ready for action:—Men convalescing, not ready for employment, and not yefc discharged by tho military authorities, 272. Gra.nd total, 6805.
