The Otorohanga Chamber of Commerce 'ihas recently written to the Wellington Chamber drawing its attention to the 4'acfc that it has passed the following resolution:—"That tho attention of j-he Government be drawn to the fact that all importations from tho "U.S. America of non-essontials such as motor-cars, etc., should be prohibited, 'on the grounds that: (1) Such importation takes up valuable shipping /space j (2) our money spent in America has to be found by Bntain and indirectly affects .tho rate of exchange; (3) all expenditure on non-essentials is at the proKent time distinctly against public interest; (1) that Urn Government bo asked io_ (al;o tlic matter iuto immediate consideration." ,' ■ Mr. F. W. Manton. mentioned that this matter liad recently been before tho Commonwealth .Government, and Mr. Hughes had boon talking about tho importation of motor-cars and other non-essentials that -wore coming into tho country j'e quantities. Ewen thought that this Tva-s a matter for the National Efficiency Board to deal with, and moved 'that the chamber approve of tho spirit of the resolution, but that its consideration be postponed, arid that as it came within the order of reference that the matter bo sent on to the National Efficiency Board.
