"Wlien information was rwciveo from the Imperial Government thatno women were to be allowed to leavoNew Zealand with the object of traversing the danger zone," said Mr. Russell, "a cablegram was sent to tho Imperial Government asking whether tho prohibition, applied to South African and American ports of Panama, San Francisco, and Vancouver. A reply .has been received that His Majesty's Government sees no objection to women, and children travelling to tho places named, provided they do not continue their voyage thence through the danger zone. "The effect of this will be that the Department will, from now onwards, continuo to grant ordinary permits for women and children to leave New Zealand for the places named, but in no case will any .passport be issued to enable women and children to travel beyond America in order to reach Great Britain or any other country to which they may have jto travel .through any danger zone."
