LANTERN LECTURE
In connection with Mie programme of providing relaxation and entertainment for the delegates attending the Methodist Conference, a lantern lecture was given in the Weslev Church, Taranaki Street, last evening "by Captain-Ohaplain .Read. The lecture was entitled "Fifty Thousand Miles in a Hospital Ship." Captain Read having been a' chaplain on the Marama. About 125 lantern slides were exhibited, giving views of interesting 6cenes in Egypt, Malta, Salonika, North and South S'ance, England, and Dublin. The lecturer dealt with his topic very interestingly, pathos and humour being happily blended. The chaplain had nothing but praise for our soldiers, who have endured hardships and privations without murmuring. Tho wounded were particularly courageous, bearing their misfortunes and harts with praiseworthy fortitude. Of the 13,000 wounded and sick soldiers carried by the hospital ship Marama, not one of the hundreds spoken to by the lecturer regretted going to the war, on the contrary all were glad that they had done their little bit.
