STEAMERS IN COLLISION

AT GISBORNE ARAHURA AND HOME LINER BIG VESSEL HOLED IN THE BOWS ARAHURA BEACHED (Tress Association—Extraordinary.) ' (Rec. March 2, 0.25 a.m.) Cisborne, March 1. 'A collision occurred in the Bay tonight between tho Union Company's steamer Arahura and a Home liner of the New Zealand Shipping Company's fleet.

' Apparently both vessels were under .Tvay, and about to leave at 11 o'clock, when the mishap occurred. Details are lacking, but the Home liner sent a (Morse message ashore that she has a ■ hole in her bows and that, the Arahura is standing in close to the river, and has signalled for medical assistance.

The Harbour Board's launch, the dredge Maui, and the steamer Karoro are .standing by, but until the launch gets back no further details will be available. . .
