EXPLANATION OF THE GERMAN RETREAT
Paris, February 27. . The "Journal's" correspondent at British Headquarters says: "The explanation of the apparent mystery of the. retreat on the Ancre is simple. The Germans have fallen back to cscapo nn overwhelming disaster. The viotorv is particularly due to the terrific efficacy of new gas shells. The new inventions have reached a point where it is possible to kill at a long distance. The shells are a marvellous success." —Aus.-N.X. Cable Assn.
ON THE FRENCH FRONT
