CLERGYMAN MOBBED AT HAMILTON
AN ANTI-CATHOLIC TIRADE. By Telegraph—Press Association. Hamilton, February 28. Angry scenes were- witnessed last uighf at a lecture on "Who Caused the War?" by the Rev. Howard Elliott. This l ecturer sought to show that Roman Catholics throughout the world were in league against Britain, and ho was subjected to bitter interjections throughout. His declaration that 'the Pope was responsible for the present European conflict, in his anxiety to secure world domination, caused a tremendous outburst of invective, and the lecturer, who liwl difficulty in proceeding, ordered tho police to remove several interrupters At the conclusion of the lecture a crowd waited for, and followed, the lecturer, who had to bo escorted by tho police.' He eventually escaped in a motor-car.
