Tho decision of the meeting of the council regarding a Uouiinviu conference between rcpresenta.lives of t!m Waterside Workers' Federation and the shipowners was adopted. It was decided that nominations for tho position of president close on Monday, March 5, at 5 p.m., and that the election tako place on Wednesday and Thursday, March 7 and 8, respectively. Mr. H. H. Simmons -was elected to the position of returning officer to conduct the ballot, while Messrs. T. Holding and James Reid: ivero appointed scrutineers. A. resolution calling on members to carry their union ca.rds ejid to refuse to work -with non-iraioni6t6 was carried by tho meeting. MANUKA. FROM SYDNEY. Early yostcrday morning the Manuka arrived in port from Sydney direct, and Anchored tn the stream until daybreak; when' she berthed at No. 6 Queen's Wharf She left Wellington last night for LyU tellon, and is due hero again on Thursday afternoon. She will not sail until 3 p.m. on Friday for Sydney direct. Messrs. Cathie, Dempster, and. Co. advise that they do not now expect the Eunice hero till to-morrow from Lyttelton. She leaves hero to-morrow ovening for Wanganui.. The Waimca. is expected from Wanganui to-day. and will go on the slip for overhaul. The Hippie now sails for Napier only at 5 p.m. to-day. She is expected back on Sunday next, and will sail the following Tuesday for Napier, Gisborne, and AkiHo - ~. „ Somewhat unexpectedly tho Orcpuki ar. rived In port yesterday evening from Tarakohe. She Is advertised to leave to. day at noon for Lyttelton and Timaru. Tho Huia left yesterday for Gisborne to discharge timber. From Gisborne she goes on to Auckland. The Hinomoa finished at East Cape yesterday, and left for Mercury Bay and Couvier Island. Sho should get to Auck- I lend on Thursday evening. Tho preliminary Inquiry into the mishap to the Mararoa was commenced yesterday, and the master' of the vessel was examined. The inquiry was postponed, however, as evidence has to be taken from members of the crew who ha.vc gone south on the vessel. The Amokura. is expected to leave Picton to-dav for Akaroa. She then goes south Her final port has not yet been decided.. Tho Ngakuta -was to have left Greymouth yesterday, and is due here on Thursday morning -with a cargo of coal. The Breeze wili now leave here at 10 o'clock this morning for southern ports. The Mapourika did not leave Picton until 7.30 p.m. yesterday, and conseouenfrly did not arrive in port until early this morning. She leayes here at noon today for Picton and Nelson, and not at 12.45 p.m. as the Pateena does. The Oorinna left for New Plymouth last night, and is due back on Friday with dairy produce. She proceeds south on Saturday. The Kauri leaves Westport this afternoon for Wellington direct. The Kamo should get away for Grey, mouth to-day to load: back to Wellington. Tho Kaituna also leaves here to-day, and proceeds to Westport to load for Wellington. Mr. 0. C. Marshall, purser of tho TaInne, has enlisted with the Twenty-seventh Reinforcements, and will go into camp shortly. Mr. W. J. NevUle.. purser of an oversea vessel, will fill the vacancy on the Talune.
