Lucaswere eucoessful in the recent examination for their second mate's certificates, and have been appointed third officer on the To Anau, Koroniiko. and Karon respectively. , The work of repairing the barque Antiopo at Port Chalmers is now well ill hand, and the repairs are said to bo less extensive than was anticipated. Altogether only about six new plates have been used to ropair the two damaged portions of the vessel's hull, a number of bent and

A piece of the irou belting caught in the bond round a pile, which snapped.. The pile remained attached to the bell* ing, and was carried along by the vessel. So firmly was the pile attached to tho belting that it took several men. some* time-to separate them. With reference to the ; recent change of ownership in the case of the coastal ateamer Tainui, it appears that the vessel was purchased by the N.Z. Tha vessel will join tho company's fleet b£ lighters, which includes, besides the Tainui, the Dorset, Eunice, and Morning Light.
