HEAVY GALE AT AUCKLAND
SEVERE DAMAGE REPORTED,

In the height of a gale at 5.30 this morning, a tree fell oil a house ie the city, smashing portion of the roofSeveral inmates in a bedrooin had anarrow escape, that portion of the house being rendered uninhabitable._ Damage to yaohts in the harbour is estimated at £1000, and small trading vessels suffered to a great extent. Mr. J. J. Craig losftwo vessels, and another was badly damaged. The scow Rimu and_the cutter Stag, which went ashore at Waiheke, became total wrecks. JTho com-> 155hea value of the vessels is_ £1000. The coastal service is disorganised.
