THE N.Z. SCHOOLS' CHAMPIONSHIP. A 440 yds race took place at the To Aro Baths last evening to determine which toys 6hould represent the local centre in tie New Zealand Championship Swimming Carnival, to be held at the Tβ Aro Baths on Saturday next. The iaee ended in a win for H. Conzena, o? the Maranui School, with A. Olnridgo (Kilbirnie) a good second. Tho distanco between the two boys at the linish was only four yards, and both wiil compete in the 100 and 410 yds. ehauipipn6h:p races on Saturday. Anckland, JCspier, Palmerston North, Dunediri", .md Ohristchurch centres will be represented, and all the (schools are agog with excitement over the events to be decided "n _ Saturday. The programme will ako include the Duthie Cup teams' race for schools (four children in a team), fur vhich eistit entriee have been revived. ThcTe will also be handicap races for >-oye and girls, a diving competition, and comic items. Arrangements have been tna'lo to entertain the visiting children, liiry kio to be taken to tho pictnrea on Sntiirdny evening, and on Snnday they will be given an outing at Diy's Bay. The ewimming events at Island Bay on Saturday again drew a large crowd to the beach. The diving events proved very interesting, and the entries were large. Tie result of the ladies' diving was: Mies K. Skinner. 1: Jlise H. Laurensen, 2; Mrs. J. Walker, 3. Men's diving: R. Andersen, I; W. "Wilkinson, 2: P. Yatee, 3. « The 100 yds. Handicap (free style) was a fine rnce, and a close finish resulted in V. '•Allen, 1; P. Wilcox, 2; W. Wilkinson, 3. Mr. G. S. Hill jndged the diving and Mr. W. H. Coy tho swimming.
