Strenuous efforts arc being made both by the Government inspectors and settlers to prevent the weed from 'over-running tl.e country. One of the most effective means of destruction is a competition among the children attending the fores, schools for the collection of tlio greatest, number of roots. Eight schools arc competing, and up to t'lio present over o(l0,000 roots have been collectsd and destroyed since December 1. The Gellibrand State School is leading in the competition, with 348,467.
