Sir James Wilson, chairman of tho Palnierston Hospital Board, has received advice to the effect that Dr. Putnam, principal medical officer to tho board, will return to Palmerston North about the middle of March.
Private advico lias been received, says a Press Association telegram, that Sergeant Percy Holland, second son of tho Mayor of Christchurch, died on February 5, as a result of being gassed in Franco. He loft New Zealand with tho Sixth Roinforcemonts, and went through tho Gallipoli campaign.
Inspector Hendroy, who has been promoted to the charge of the Wanganui police district, left by the Main Trunk express yesterday. Sub-Inspector M'Kinuon expects to leave for his new sphere of duties at Palmerston North shortly.

The Rev. G. K. Stowell, lato of Featherston, has resigned his position as clerk to tho Wairarapa Presbytery, and the Rev. 0. T. Brown, of Knox Church, Mastcrton, has beoii_appointcd in his place.
Mr. Gus Brown (only son of Mr. J. A. S. Brown, of tho firm of Samuel Brown, Ltd.), who volunteered but was rejected somo timo ago, has gouo into camp with tho 26th Reinforcements.
Mr. J. Grant Mackic, aeroplane constructor and formerly chief mechanic to tho Auokjand Flying School, has arrived in phristcluirch to take up the position of mechanic to Lho Canterbury Aviation School.
Lieutenant B. Mollison, who has been awarded tho Military Cross for penetrating tho enemy's Hues and .inflicting heavy loss, is well known in Wellington athletic circles.. ' Ho was a prominent mid-week footballer and cricketer. During his long residence hero ho was employed by Mossrs. Georgo and Georgo as their manager at Brooklyn, and was a sergeant in the Brooklyn National Reserve. Before leaving for tho front ho was entortain-<-d at'Godber's by Messrs. Georgo and George's, and at that function tho hopo was expressed that ho would return laden with honours.
Dolcctivos O'Connor and Torrauco, of Cliristchurch, have been transferred to Wellington for temporary duty.
