INDUSTRIAL EFFICIENCY
MEETING OF THE NEW BOARD.
A meeting of the recently constituted Industrial Efficiency Board was held yesterday. The members of this body are Messrs. W. Ferguson, of ■Wellington (chairman), J. H. Gunson, of Auckland; J. A. iFrostick, of Christchurch, and \Y. D. Hunt, of Dunedin. All. were present at the. meeting. The hoard discussed yesterday a I number of general questions preparatory .to formulating a plan of work. The idea is that the hoard shall deter|mine what shall be done,. and that every member shall afterwards carry on this work in his own military district-. ' Sir James Alien made the important announcement last evening that it had been decided to appoint a fifth member to. .the board. "It was reported to us," he said, "that the work of the chairman would he so important, and would take up so much time, that it was advisable to leave the chairman free of the work in his own district. They suggested that we should appoint another man for Wellington district, and this we have agreed to do. Wo have not yet chosen the new appointee. ' "We are now preparing to define precisely the conditions of the appointment of members: of the. .hoard, their duties and so on, and also the term of their appointment. We hope to have them for the ppriod of the war and"afterwards, if possible.- I am very glad -to say that the; members appear to, he willing to .give us their services until a . year after ,the war is oyer. .In this last year their work will probably he as valuable ,as now,- for tliev will deal then with new industries, the application of science and research to new industries, and problems of this kind."
