Mies Wheeler, who has been visiting her sister, Mrs. David Williamson, in Ohristchurch, has returned to Wellington. Dr. and Mrs. • Montague, Fiji, who Sv«ro at the- Hydro for several weeks, have gone to Wanganiii. ' Miss White, Cfrasmere, is expected back from Hawke's Bay early nest week. ', ' Miss ¥.' L.■ 'Smithy formerly' "head mistress of the Greytown High School, and who was appointed to succeed Miss Law (who accepted a position at the Wanganui Girls' College) has commenced her duties at the Dannevirke High School. Miss Phyllis Bates has returned to Sumner from Wellington. Bright weather prevailed for t the afternoon tea party given by Their Excellencies the Governor and Countess of Liverpool at Elmood last Thursday. Thero was a very large attendance, and Their Excellencies received their many guests on the. terrace ill front of the houso. Her Excellency looked charming in a cream frock of embroidered voile, largo picture hat of black tulle
with tulle chou and pink roses. Mrs. G. G. Stead *is staying with Mrs. Wilfred Stead, Hastings! Miss Barnicoat (Wellington) is the guest of Mrs. T. A. Phillips, The Point. Mrs. Gladstone' Robinson, who has been staying in Wellington, has rei turned to the South Island. _ Nurse Fa-ram, visiting nurse, of Wellington, has been granted leave of absence for service- with the Twentyi second Reinforcements. ' Nurse M. S. Silvester, of the New Zealand Army Nursing Service, is officially reported to be ill in hospital, though not'seriously. Miss Eflsemary Eees, a New Zealand girl, -who struck out for herself some years ago and, who has achieved success as. an 'actress, a writer of plays and of short stories, ismanaging director of all camp entertainments for New Zealand soldiers in England. Miss Rees is a, sister of Mrs. Hugh Lusk (Napier), who went to England last year to join her daughter, Mrs. Singer, of Gisborne. Mrs. Burdon has returned to Wellington after her stay in Christohurch.
