Moorhouse (chairman), - -and Messrs. A. O'L. Considine,. and 11. J. Mack (members). Robert Jefferson Sparrow, a member of the Plymouth Brethren, asked' to be allowed to do ambulance work. ' He had religious objections to fighting. The Plymouth Brethren m general were against combatant-service, but there might bo some who-did not object to it AH appellant's Territorial training had-been on-the ambulance side. ' ' The appeal was dismissed, and the Board will recommend that, in defer-, enco to his religious objections. and in consideration of his ambulance training, ho should be emploj'ed in the Medical Corps. Two Men from Samoa. Edward Oscar Withers, .advertising agent, 34 Oniro Road, Wellington, desired temporary .exemption for business ■ reasons. ' . ■ \ Withers said he had been a. member of the Samoa Force. He had contract- , cd fever there, and had been discharged at his own request. He had an■Kiimed that he would not be fit for service again, and had invested in an ad- » verfcisuig business. Leave till April 28 was granted.' Lcouard Andrew Smith,, who had reived.-221 days in Samoa, and wlio had been discharged at his own request, and had' since ; married, sought I exemption on the ground of responsibilities to his own family and to his mother and young sister. /Appellant ■nas a butcher in.the employ of Preston , and Co. ■ Decision was reserved." Three Brothers on Service.' George Meredith Wright, a washer at the Hospital , liiundry, appealed on' the ground of undue hardship. Ho said that he had four brothers, two of whom were at the front, and one in camp. The other was not available for military.service. Appellant wished to 1 remain to look after his aged father. Appellant had enlisted, had been in camp, and had been rejected for unfitness. Howevor, the Medical Board had since declared him tit. The Board dismissed the appeal. The , chairman, remarked that the Wright * family, had done very well, but the case did not come within, the exemptions. Medical students and others. George Edwin Waterworth, a fourthrear medical student at Dunedin, stated that the head of the Medical School appealed on behalf of the students on . the ground of public interest. The case was allowed to stand over, as the Board was not clear, as to tTfe' position of medical students. Francis Beresford Young, ironmonger, Salamanca. Road, Wellington, asked for two months' extension to adjust business matters.—-Granted. Joseph A. Smyth was granted two months' exemption.
