MASTER PLUMBERS

i ANNUAL CONFERENCE. The annual conference of the New Zealand Federation of Master Plumbers was continued in the Central Chamber of Commerce yesterday morning,- Mr. Wm. Judd presiding. The'whole of the morning session was in committee. ■ At noon an adjournment was "inado in order that the delegates should be photographed, and in the afternoon . they were taken per motor-car to the Wainui waterworks, the perfect weather making the outing a delightful one. \ At the evening session a.discussion took place on the following "Wellington remit:—"That conference consider the decision recently announced by the Arbitration Court as to apprentices and lost time in serving under compulsory military service, and also consider the aspect of the case now that service is compulsory under the Military Service Act, with a view to taking steps to protect the employer against hardship in paying apprentices for time not served." ■ . , In regard to this remit, which was , moved by Mr. Judd, a copy of the New South Wales Act was read. , lhe mover thought that the matter might again be referred to the New Zealand Employers' Federation. Mr. R. Bamsay seconded the motion. Mr. J\ Ballinger moved that the question be referred to the New Zealand Employers' Federation, with the recommendation that the Government be urged to introduce legislation similar to tho New South Wales Act. This was car- - ried. v . Several other remits relating to apprentices, lost time, wages, etc., were taken in committee: ' The conference will resume at 10 a.m. to-day. During the afternoon there will be a bowling match on the Wellington Club's green between delegates to the conference and Wellington master builders. ■ : . At 7.30 p.m. a deputation from the conference is to interview Dr. Frengley (Health Officer) in regard to the Plumbers' Board. ' Tho conference will resume in the evening.
