ORDER OF THE STAR IN THE EAST
At a.meeting of the Order of tho Star in the East last night,- the Rev. Wedgwood spoke'of the coming of a world teacher. Our idea, he said, of tho coming of a teacher is associated with the second coming of Christ. The words, "Lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of tho worldi," referred to the- end of a cycle. ■Wβ were now as a race at the end of an age, and tho opening "of a new cycle, when a great.teacher is expected. Mr. Wedgwood foreshadowed-some of the changes that He would bring about. The most important, would be a ■ refining of the whole, nature of man, consequently all those movements that helped to unfold man spiritually would he vitalised and quickened. Notably would ho the religious training of the' young. Music, art, ami. all that developed the taste for beauty and refinement ivonld play a large part in the child's Changes in medicine would l bo brought about. Direct observation of the cause of disease would be attained by medical clairvoyance. In religion, personal spiritual experience would give place to dogma and authority from without. The coming of a. world teacher, tho speaker said, means a great streaming out of spiritual power, as the mystic puts it, the Christ.Spirit. This would mean a great quickening of all that is high and noble in.the consciousness of the race. Tho dawn of this consciousness was already manifest to-day in tho warm sense of 'brotherhood generally abroad, in the awakening of the social conßcience, and the deepening of the humanitarian spirit in the present war.
