(Continued from page' 2.)

St.'John Ambulance Work. The committee of the St. John Ambulance Brigade and Red Cross Society Depot, Star Boating Club shed, Jorvois.Quay, has received the following interesting letter from the 0.C.; St. John lAmbnlance Brigade Hospital, Etaplos, (Franco:— ■ , - Dear Sir, —I have now the pleasuro to acknowledge the receipt, of 30 bales Containing dressings, bandages, linen, r etc: I need scarcely tell you how grateful I am to you for your assistance. It is most generous of your Ladies' Committee, and I have no words to express my obligations.' The St. John Ambulance Brigade Hospital is really doing a very fine iysrk. Our organisation land staff enable us to deal with tho very worst type of case, and this be3ng well known, to the authorities, we Ret the very worst of both medical imd surgical cases. 'It is a very treat pleasure to all of us to be associated "with, this institution, and we enn thoroughly satisfy ourselves concerning the nature of the work we are doing, 'though it gets very depressing at times looking at all these poor wounded men, nnd some, of their wounds are simply terrible. . .

I am not; allowed to give yon figures as to thb number of cases that have passed through our hands, but I can roughly' say that we have 'dealt with n £ood many thousand. Perha-bs it would interest you to know how the hospital 5s staffed. There, is one officer eommandJng, with 16 medicnl officers, one dental ■surgeon, one quartermaster, and a secretary. At present wn have 56 trained nurse*, and. 25. St. John 'Ambulance V.A.D. nurses. Also a Provisional company, R.A.M:C.,. strength 142, all. St. '.John Ambulance Brigade, 'men. enlisted in the Royal Army Medical .Corps for the duration of the war. Of course you know the hospital contains 520 beds! 20 for officers and the remainder for other Tanks. , 'When the bosnital is full and the staff added we havo a goodly sized family.

It is very nice to know that tW St. ,'John Brirrade work is progressing well In New Zealand. I think that after the war there will be a big colonial expansion of this organisation. I 3m en-

closing a slip showing what articles we use and require most of, and if it should oome our turn again, and you can help us in this direction, I need hardly say how grateful I shall he to you. Dressings and bandages as detailed are most valuable and useful to ,us.
