MAGISTRATE'S COURT

« Mr. L. G. Reid, S.M., presided over a sitting of the Magistrate's Court yesterday. For insobriety, Albert Winn was fined 10s. Frederick Herbert Crampton, who had been found helplessly drunk in Courtenay Place, was ordered to pay medical expenses, amounting to 17s. 6d. Mahomet James, a coloured seaman, was convicted of being absent from his ship without leave. He was ordered to pay costs, and to be placed aboard tho vessel. For committing a breach of his prohibition order, John Laidlaw Walling was fined 10s., with 7s. costs. Walter Hadley, who -was recently proceeded against by tho City Corporation for interfering with the protective worlcs at Island Bay by carting away rocks, was penalised in tho sum of 55., -with lis. costs. Reserved judgment was given in the case in -which Herbert Hayward was charged with leaving a. motor-car unattended in Manners Street. The Magistrate, who stated that he had viewed the locality, convicted tho defendant, and ordered him to pay costs. MAINTENANCE CASES. Ordors for payment of arrears of maintenance -wore made as follow: — Archibald Robertson was sentenced to 14 days' imprisonment failing payment by weekly instalments of 10s.; Thomas Turyey to a month's imprisonment failing payment by weekly instalments of the same amount; Frederick Williams to 14 days' imprisonment failing payment by weekly instalments of 55.; William _ Williams to 14 days' imprisonment failing payment by weekly instalments of 10s.; Frederick Edwards to 14 days' imprisonment^ailing payment of £1 within a week; Thomas Lano Martin to a month's imprisonment failing payment by weekly instalments of 10s.; Robert James Nisbot to a"month's imprisonment failing paymont. of arrears under ono order by instalments of 10s. por iveck, and to 14 days' imprisonment failing payment of arrears tmdor each of two other ordors by weekly instalments of ss.
