RURAL WORKERS
AN ORGANISATION REGISTERED. Tho Agricultural and Pastoral Workers' Union has been granted registration under the Trade "Union Act, with tho titlo of the Federated Agricultural and Pastoral Workers' Union of NewZealand. Tho union sought to register under the Arbitration Act, but failed to do so, tho Arbitration Court holding that tho formation of tho organisation was not in 'accordance with tho principles of tho Act. One question at issue was in regard to tho classes of workers which could bo covered by the union. In tho rules now' rcgistciitoj. that relating to membership provides for the inclusion of all classes of workers—shearers, shed-hands, farm and station workors, musterers, drovers, shepherds, thrashing-mill workers, and other workors engaged in agricultural and pastoral pursuits. Another important provision is that the A.P.U. may become part of tho Australian Workers' Union. It is stated that some time ago the Shearers' Union, from which the A.P.U. sprang, endorsed the principle of alliance with Australia, and it is expected that this will eventually be brought about.
