News has been received that Dr. A. K. Newman, M.l\ for Wellington East, has reached San Francisco on his return journey to New Zealand. He will arrive here about the end of February.

Mr. W. J. Dunlop, formerly of Auckland and Wellington, has succeeded Mr. P. Dawson as meat inspector at the Gisborne Borough abattoirs. Mr. Dawson has been transferred to the Auckland freezing works.
Mr. Bert Webley, lately traveller for the New' Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, is leaving Nelson to take up a managership in the North Island tor the Wairarapa Farmers' Association.
Mr. and Mrs. Behrend Van Staveren returned from Australia by the Riverina yesterday.
The members of the Italian Opera Company, which has completed a tour of the North Island, passed through Wellington yesterday, en route to Ohristchurch, where they will commence a season this evoning.
On Saturday evening, at tho meeting of tho Wellington-Moutero Fruitgrowers' Association, a presentation was made to an enthusiastic worker, Carpi. P. C. Webb, of tho 23rd Reinforcoments. The president referred to the excellent services rendered by Corpl. Webb to the association, and to tho industry. Other members also eulogised the recipient's labours.
Mr; and Miss Coleman Brender, of South Africa, left 'Wellington last evening on a visit to the chief scenio resorts.
A cable message has been received stating that .Private W. H. Moore, who first left Wellington with tho advance party for Samoa, and subsequently left with the Fifth Reinforcements, has been ' granted a • commission in the New Zealand Expeditionary Forces. Beforo enlisting, Lieutenant Moore was in the services of the 'Wellington Corporation Tramways.
Mr. C. A. Jcffcry, secretary to the Hon. A. M. Myers, has enlisted, and will enter camp with the Twentyseventh Reinforcements on March 6. Mr. Jefferj was unable to pass the medical examination until Borne recent changes were made in the regulations.
