TROOPS IN EGYPT
9 COMFORTS FOR SICK'AND WOUNDED. Now Zealand Headquarters in Egypt has reported to the Minister of Defenoo (the Hon. J. Allen) regarding the provision made for supplying comforts to sick and wounded. Dominion troops in that country. The Minister cabled on October, 12 authorising the { expenditure of £500 on tho purchase of comforts for Now Zealand soldiers in Egyptian hospitals. Among the articles purchased by tho money wero cigarettes, tobacco, matches, shaving gear, tooth brushes, cards, sweets, biscuits, and so on. The list, it is stated, is made up from general requisitions. Tho hospitals are visited frequently, and no trouble is snared to make the men happy. In addition, the report states the New Zealanders usually get a share of tho gifts- distributed in tho hospitals by the Red Cross and other voluntary workers. At tho hospital at Port Said arrangements havo been made for one New Zealand nurse to got supplies of gifts, which are sent through the base, and she distributes them to"tho men there. "Very few of our men," the report adds, "go into other hospitals in the Canal zone, and are not kept for more than a few days, and, no arrangement is madojior gifts in these cases. All men discharged from hospitals (except tlioso discharged fit for duty and sent direct to their units cr the training depot) aro sent to Aotea'Home, and wo keep the home supplied with gifts, including games. The report also refers to weekly motor outings organised for tho sick and wounded New Zealanders.
