VESSELS IN ROUGH WEATHER. The "North Auckland Times" (Dargavillc. Northern Wairoa) of Tuesday last says:—"Tho brigantinc Aratapu, which arrived in port with produce from Lyttelton on Friday, has completed discharging consignments for down-river ports, nnd is. now clearing her hold at Mangawhare. The Union Company's collier Kakapo arrived at Duncdin on Friday evening from Novroastle after a very rough trip of nearly seven days. The vessel cleared the New South Wales port at 11 p.m. on January 12, and encountered heavy southwest aud westerly gales all the woy across the Twnian Sea. The Kakanpo had to battle against big seas nearly the whole way across, and although her decks were almost continually awash no damage was done on board. She' brought 1900 tons of coal, 66 tons of coke, and 48,631 superficial feet of timber for discharge at Dunedin. The Kakapo was docked at Sydney a fortnight ago in connection with her annual survey and overhaul. On completion of discharge she will proceed to We6tpoct to load for Auckland. The small steamer Wallsend. which left Melbourne on January 17, is duo nt Wanganui to-day. The Wanganui Harbour Board recently notified the Marine Department that on and after to-day, the fixed -white light which is exhibited from tho flagstaff on North Head will be changed to a white flashing Aga acetone acetylene light of 300-c.p., flash 0,6 second, followed by. an eclipse of 5.4 seconds. Height of light 65ft., and it should be visible in clear weather for a distance of about 10 miles. The Moona is due at Wellington on Saturday, and on Monday will sail for Melbourne. On her next trip • she will withdraw from the intercolonial service when she reaches Dnnedin, and -will undergo overhaul. The Paloon'a intercolonial running will be taken up by a cargo steamer, which will leave on a date yet to be fixed. Tho steamer for Sydney this week is the Moeraki, -which sailed from lyttelton • for Wellington at about 6 o clock last ovening. The vessel, on arrival, will load for Sydney, for which port she is expected] to sail at 5 p.m. to-day.
