ROMAN CATHOLIC FEDERATION
At the meeting of the Dominion Executive of the Roman Catholic .Federation, held at St. Patrick's Hall last evening, it was reported that the sum of £355 13s. lOd. had been forwarded by Bishop Brodie, of Christchurch, as the collection made in that dioeese for the Roman Catholic Field Service Fund, Other amounts also received were £157 10s. Id. from Napier, £34 Is. 6d. from Meeanee, and £21 from Taihape. The total amount collected had now reached over £1000, and out of this sum donations tjotalling over £300 have been made to tho chaplains of tho hospital ships and various Reinforcements. It was also decided to donate £150 towards renovating and improving the Roman Catholic Hall at Trentham. The thanks of the' executive of the Field Service Fund was extended to the chairman of the Boxing Association for a donation of sets of boxing gloves to the chaplain of the Twentyfirat Reinforcements for the use of the men on the voyage and in camp. ' Arrangements for the conference of \ the Dominion Council which was fixed to tako: place at Auckland on February 21 were dealt with. ■ At this meeting _ direct representatives from tho various diocesan councils have signified their intention of being present, and many important matters are on the business paper'for that meeting. 'Advantage will be taken by the Auckland executive of holding a convention of Catholics, at which addresses on matters appertaining to the Roman Catholic Federation will be delivered by chosen speakers, the Town Hall, Auckland, being engaged for the purpose.
