Leather Waistcoats In Request. Ladies who have' assisted in the making of leather waistcoats for our troops will bo interested to hear that they havo recently been distributed amongst our boys who are in France.' The waistcoats aro very much appreciated by everyone who is fortunate enough to secure one, as tho -following extract from an officer's letter will show: —"Tho celebrated leather waistcoats were issued to-day. I got one. Tho men appreciated them, very much, .and a good many have put them on for keeps —that is, they won't take, them off moro than is absolutely necessary till nest summer. They wear them at stablos and everywhere.' One of tho men, writing from France, says: "As for the leather -waistcoats, they are A.l. A birthday party of much local interest was. given recently at Paekakariki in honour of Miss Phyllis Mildenhall, only daughter of Mr. and Mrs. .Mildenhall, both of -whom aro widely known and highly-esteemed residents of Packafciriki. A garden party,. attended by a large number of guests, was hold in the grounds in the afternoon, and a most pleasant time was . spent.
