MEDICAL EXAMINATION
TO PRECEDE APPEALS The Defence authorities are likely to arrange tliafc in future men selected by ballot for service with tlio Expeditionary Forces shall bo medically examined as soon aa possible after tho publication of their names in tho Gazette. The hearing of appeals will come later. Experience has shown that much time is wasted when appoals are heard by the Military Service Boards before the men concerned Lave been beforo the Medical Boards. If the medical examination is taken first, some appeals will become unnecessary, since the men will know that the.v are not eligible for service. An added advantage will be that the Defence' authorities will learn quiokly how many fit men the ballot has produced. The New Boards. The personnel of the six new 'Military Service Boards has not yot been announced. Four of the Boards liave been completed, and the remaining two may bo formed to-day. Tho Boards will begin their work as quickly as possible. They will work at first in conjunction with the existing Boards in the four military districts, in order to clear away the accumulations of apneals. Later the four new permanent Boards (two of the six are temporary only) will have districts assigned to them. , Tho issue of the rolls of the First Division of the Expeditionary Force Reserve is proceeding as the papers come from the Government Printing Office. The rolls for Wellington, Christehurch, and Dunedin have been issued, and are now available for inspection at the post offices.
