DIDSBTJRY. n Wo regret to announce the uncxpcct- v ed death of Mr, Wilfred Holmden s Didsbury» tlie well-known dental sur- J 1 geon, of Upper AVillis Street, aud third son of tlio late Mr. George Didsbury « (formerly Government Printer). Mi. Didsbury, who held a high place in his Jprofession as a skilful dentist and a. gentleman of high ideals, only became ill on Saturday week. He was sulferine, from internal trouble, and w as at once removed to a private hospital, where he was operated upon on VV ednesday last. After the operation he •* appeared to rally for a time, but complications ensued, and he sank graaually, and died on Monday afternoon. The late Mr. Didsbury, who,was 44 years of age, was a native ofvi ellington, and has lived here practically tor tho whole of his lifetime. He was educated at the Terrace School and College. After leaving college ho entered tho service or the Union Bank of Australia, and again acquitted himself with credit. Then he gave up the banking business to tako up dentistry, which ho studied under Mr. Cox, of.Timar.u. Ho passed i his examinations with credit, and re- < turning to Wellington entered into < partnership "with Mr. Richard Bulkje.Y* i who was an old and well-established j dentist here. He married a daughter of Mr. Bulkley's, and on the latter's < death took over the sole control of tho__ , business, which has been his caro up to the time of his death. For sonic. * years he lived at Bay, and tdbk a keen interest in everything apper- ] taining .to that popular seaside resort. 1 Only a year ago he moved into towri | again, having erected a charming residence on the Terrace. He was formerly a- member of the Tlutt Golr Club,/ was a warden of St. Alban's when a resident of the Bay, and longer ago was a member of the Star-Boating Club. He was always interested in amateur - theatricals, and only a few months ago aoted as stage manager for Miss C»mpbell's pretty musical concert ' "Sunset Land." Mr. Didsbury leaves a widow and two children (a boy and girl). His mother still resides in Wellington. His brothers are Mr. H. M. Didsbury (manager for-the New Zealand Insurance Company at Napier), Mr. E. G. Didsbury (engineer in charge of the British Proprietary Gold Mines, Broken ( Hiltf, Mr. K. J. Didsbury (farmer, of Palmerston North), and Mr. Guv Dids--hury (manager of the Wellington branch of the Standard Insurance Company). Mrs. H. W. Moss, of ICarori, and Miss Didsbury arc the deceased's sisters. ' The funeral will take place this morning. MR. SYDNEY CARPENTER. ' Mr. Sydney Carpenter, who lias held the position of advertising manager on The Dominion staff • for the. past three years, and for four years preceding chief of the advertising staff, died suddenly at his residence yesterday-morn-ing. The deceased gentleman ivas born ■ in. England in 1858, and educated -in England and France. later lie grated to Australia, •■where he'yfilled several important positions ill -the commercial world of the various States. While engaged on the "Brisbane Courier," . Mr. Carpenter was offered and accepted an engagement by the Wellington Publishing Company, Ltd. . During Ihis ,' association with The Dominion in Wellington, ho.has made a great number of friends, by whom ho was held in the highest esteem, and his unexpected demise has caused sincero regret among all with whom ho - was associated, and to none more so than his colleagues at The Dominion office. He is survived by a widow and two young children. His other relatives resido in "England.
